MISSION
The mission of Powhatan Elementary is to provide each student
a diverse education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes
self-discipline, motivation, and excellence in learning. Powhatan
Elementary School holds high standards for learning. It is
expected that each child will show academic progress throughout
the year, as measured by BCPS milestone assessments, standardized
tests, and state mandated assessments. “No child is
left behind.”
Stakeholders
are responsible to ensure that children are inspired to achieve academic excellence. High
expectations are afforded all students. An emphasis is placed on providing
more inclusive GT and enrichment programs during and after school hours. By
raising standards for academic achievement, all students will be able to reach
their learning potential. Remedial tutorial and enrichment programs are
provided to assist students in reaching their potential.
The
Powhatan team joins the parents and community in assisting students
in developing skills to become independent and self-sufficient,
life-long learners, who will succeed and contribute responsibly
in a global community.
